FIT Graduation Ceremonies

Tim Wakefield - Commencement Speaker pitched one down the middle to the graduates and their parents.
"Get a job, stop mooching off your parents and pay off your student loans."
After the applause and laughter, Wakefield shared some real life lessons, including:
  • "Never let go of your dreams."
  • "Never let anybody tell you that you can't do something."
  • "Listen to the people around you who care about you."
  • "And be a mentor to others."

  • Discovery Shuttle Launch Dec 9, 2006.
Peace on Earth. Brief but precious.
For a brief few moments on Saturday night, there was no thought of fighting in Iraq, no thought of crime, rising taxes and insurance. No thought of anything except a beautiful bright orange glow over the ocean.
We had a moment of peace, watching our shuttle lift off to the heavens.
It only lasted a few minutes, but what a glorious, calm few minutes. A star in the east, it surely was.
    Barbara Eppard - Melbourne Beach.

Atlantis Shuttle Launch Sep 9, 2006.
A Melbourne Beach couple in the VIP stands for the Launch Sep 9, 2006.
About three minutes before Launch an announcement requested everyone to stand for our National Anthem. There was quiet anticipation. But no music, no sound from the PA system. Then it began. Individuals began singing the Star Spangled Banner. It started on the South end of the stands and spread rapidly. Shortly, everyone was singing the National Anthem. Proudly and with feeling. "It was truly a day to be proud to be an American." Jim Davis.

    The rest of the story.

The Girl Scout Troop and their chaperone were in the South end of the VIP stands when the PA system failed to play our National Anthem. A lady nearby said, "Does anybody know the words to the Star Spangled Banner?" Immediately, all the Girl Scouts began singing. "I could not have been more proud. There was not a dry eye among the adults after this emotional, spontaneous display by these fine young ladies." Sharon Wolfe-Cranston, chaperone.
