Lifeguards Tower Indialantic Beach FL

Yesterday morning, for the first time, lifeguards took their positions on Indialantic's crowded beach which some weekends draws thousands. Donations were solicited to pay lifeguards this summer. Next summer it is anticipated city and county budgets will provide salaries. Atop the Melbourne Jaycee constructed tower is lifeguard Allen Maer: standing from left to right are James Reinman, Indialantic Councilman and President of the Melbourne Jaycees; G Paul Gail, an Indialantic businessman; Bill Fager, Captain of the Lifeguards; Indialantic Mayor Louis H. Mussler; Harry Goode, water safety chairman of the South Brevard American Red Cross Chapter; and Ed Chandler, Chairman of the Melbourne Jaycee's Beach Safety Project. Chandler said Lifeguards will be on duty weekends and Wednesday afternoons at Indialantic Beach. (Photo by Sterling)
